Q: What is the cost to ask for an estimate?
A: No charge. If damage is found we will work directly with the insurance company to settle for the best possible settlement. If there is no damage or insufficient damage found, then there is no charge to you. Call today for a free 14 point inspection.

Q: What can hail do to my home?
A: Hail may not show any immediate signs of damage to your roof. Hail normally has to be the size of a golf ball to bruise or break through your roof. Older roofs will be damaged much easier than newer roofs because roofing materials become more brittle over time.
You usually will not find leaks caused by hail but that doesn't mean that you do not have severe damage. Hail gives shingles bruises that will expand and contract over time with the seasonal temperature changes and the suns UV rays. Those bruises will turn into holes and then YOU WILL HAVE LEAKS.

Q: Do I need to get several estimates?
A: No. Your insurance company is going to pay for the repairs based on their opinion of the current market conditions.
They may tell you to get estimates but they already have a repair price in mind that they "INTEND" to pay regardless of any price you get.

Q: Do I need a permit?
A: You will need a permit whether you are a contractor or a homeowner if the amount of work is greater than $1,500.

Q: Can I do my own work?
A: As a homeowner, you may do your own work. There are many things that can be preformed within your home that fall under general repair such as: installing new sink faucets, upgrading kitchen cabinets, drywall repairs, etc. The itmes that fall under this category do not require a permit and can be preformed by the homeowner. A good rule of thumb to follow is if any project you may be doing in your home affects any mechanical systems such as electrical, hvac, or structural, then a permit is required. The work may still be performed by the homeowner.

Q: When do I need a inspection?
A: When you obtain a permit you will be given a list of needed inspections. These inspections reflect key phases of the job being performed and may vary.

Q: What should I require from a contractor?
A: You should always ensure that the contractor is licensed by the City of Marion and insured. We would also recommend that you ask for a few references. All legitimate contractors would expect these questions and should have no problem providing this information.

Q: Permit fees?
A: A schedule of fees may be obtained from the building department upon request. Average cost $60.00 residential remodel & $150 commercial.

Q: When do I need ILP?
A: If you are adding additional square footage onto your home or adding a structure such as a garage or a yard barn, you will need to apply for an ILP prior to the issuance of a permit. The ILP is to insure that the additional footage or garage you intend to add will not exceed the maximum property coverage and that you are within the established set-backs of your property lines. This is a very important step in the process because many times utilities companies have basements that often run through the rear of the property and occasionally between two homes.
